Re: Hello From Sweden, New York State
And, lest anyone think its all, hey just get some opal, do a little sanding, and out pops a gem!!!..... My last three, yes three in a row, have been complete duds. Zero, nada, zilch.... Sometimes unseen cracks, and sand just keep coming and don't stop until there's no opal left. I'm thankful that do...

Re: Hello From Sweden, New York State
I like Roy's Rocks videos, have seen many of them. I got my starter bag of opal from Justin and then some follow up stuff from Riley Gunn. Like me, i think a lot of people get from Justin because of his teaching and entertaining videos on youtube. Both of those (small bags of pretty tiny stones) are...

Re: Hello From Sweden, New York State
Well, its pretty straightforward and simple really. Hard work, but simple. And takes a long time. In a nutshell here it is: Size up the opal and decide what you want to do with it. This sometimes takes as long as actually sanding and polishing, at least for me. Whats the top, whats the bottom, where...

Re: Hello From Sweden, New York State
Hi-- Thank you for the welcoming posts. I do cut opal, never want to cut anything else! Lately (for the duration of the Covid thing) I've been doing everything by hand. I mean by hand, me and sandpaper, not just not on a dop stick but on a machine...lol... Well, its slow for sure. And takes longer t...

Hello From Sweden, New York State
Hi all-- Been a fan of Australian Opal for some time, and have been able to buy some rough opal mostly over that time too. Yes, there is a town of Sweden in New York state. Mostly rural where I'm at (farm) nearest to Rochester NY. Opal Auctions has been my go to spot, with a couple of others, one in...
