Just don't get a diamond cutter to facet your opal. The machines are very different and it will shred it. But they would tell you that. If I faceted that, I could probably get a 5 mm stone out of the large end. Forget RI. You do not want reflection of light in an opal. The opal does that work alread...

Too much loss on faceting. I would freeform cab them myself.

May I make a suggestion? Get some thing glass and practice the stroke method to turn the flat glass into a shallow dome. This skill works great with triplets and would work well with you are doing. Going to see if I can find a video reference. I learned it from Sarah Lee Boyce at William Holland Sch...

Baking Soda is a winner all-round. It changes the pH and disturbs the reaction. I quit carrying Adolph's Meat Tenderizer and used baking soda instead for jellyfish and Man-O-War stings. Used to carry it in a beach container in my car. Had a parking attendant at an airport lot steal half of it once.

Me too. Just seriously busy. The small amount of free time is faceting for a bench jeweler project and a mine owner prepping for Tucson.
